Indian security agencies have arrested seven foreigners, comprising an American citizen and six Ukrainians, for allegedly entering India illegally from Myanmar through the Mizoram border. The group was intercepted at major airports across the country, highlighting security vulnerabilities along India's northeastern frontier.
The detainees, including US citizen Matthew Aaron VanDyke, a security analyst, have been linked to a possible conspiracy involving the training of ethnic armed groups in Myanmar. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has launched a case, suspecting they may have been involved in training and supplying arms to insurgent groups.
The incident has resulted in diplomatic friction, with Ukraine demanding the release of its citizens and criticizing the lack of notification from Indian authorities. India's apprehensions have been further compounded by suspected drone smuggling activities across borders. Investigations are ongoing, with further details yet to be disclosed.
