A BJP councillor, Sindhu Rajan, along with her daughter and brother, has been charged for allegedly obstructing the campaign of UDF candidate Rammesh Pisharody. The obstruction reportedly took place in the Manakkalthodi area, raising issues of political intolerance in the run-up to the Kerala Assembly elections.
The charges include wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Representation of People Act. The case follows a complaint from a local woman, with accusations that Pisharody's camp is aligned with those accused of misconduct towards women.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condemned the incident as an act of intolerance, aligning with the UDF candidate's claim of undemocratic practices. Meanwhile, BJP's NDA candidate, Sobha Surendran, defended the obstruction, citing Pisharody's alleged offensive remarks about women and demanding a public apology.
