In a tragic turn of events in Jharkhand's Gumla district, two teenage girls drowned while bathing in a river on Thursday morning. The incident occurred at the Chutia river around 10.30 a.m., according to local police.

Six girls from Shanichar Tola had gone to the river for a bath when two of them, Kajal Kumari and Deep Shikha Kumari, ventured deep into the water. Despite the efforts of locals who jumped in to save them, the girls were declared dead upon arrival at the Referral Hospital in Basia.

In a separate incident, 21-year-old Subodh Kumar drowned while bathing at the Ghaghra dam reservoir in Hazaribag district. His body was recovered and is currently undergoing a post-mortem examination. Police investigations into both incidents are underway.
