Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday addressed allegations of conspiracy against the Trinamool Congress (TMC) regarding the inclusion of infiltrators in electoral rolls. Fadnavis spoke at a press conference in Kolkata, where he defended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of electoral rolls.
Fadnavis claimed that while the Supreme Court made observations on the SIR, it did not halt the exercise, yet the TMC sought to stop it entirely. He argued that the SIR has constitutional safeguards to allow legal recourse for those wrongfully omitted and is implemented to remove ineligible voters.
Moreover, Fadnavis rejected claims of Bengali migrant attacks in BJP-ruled states. Instead, he challenged the TMC on why people from West Bengal need to migrate for jobs. Citing vibrant Bengali communities in Maharashtra cities, Fadnavis pointed to the state's economic challenges under TMC governance.
