The Karnataka government has launched an investigation into the collapse of a compound wall at Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Bengaluru, which resulted in the death of seven people following heavy rains.
In response to the tragedy, the government has formed two committees tasked with submitting detailed findings within a week. One committee includes the Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru Urban District and the Yelahanka Tahsildar, who will conduct a local inquiry. A second, more technically-focused committee led by retired PWD Chief Engineer Mohan K, will also investigate.
Preliminary findings suggest the wall's failure was due to maintenance lapses. Following its collapse on April 29, an executive engineer has been suspended pending further inquiry. The Terms of Reference for the investigation include assessing construction year, material quality, and maintenance practices to prevent future incidents.
