Major Shake-Up in South Sudan's Government: Kiir Replaces Top Officials

South Sudan's President Salva Kiir has dismissed the country's military chief and finance minister in a bid to consolidate power amid succession uncertainty. General Paul Nang and Salvatore Garang Mabiordit have been replaced by General Santino Deng Wol and Kuol Daniel Ayulo, respectively, according to state media reports.

In a significant political maneuver, South Sudan's President Salva Kiir has relieved key government figures of their duties, namely the nation's military chief and finance minister. The state media reported these changes late Wednesday, highlighting a continual pattern of reshuffles within Kiir's administration.

General Paul Nang, who assumed the role of army chief in October, and Finance Minister Salvatore Garang Mabiordit, who took position in late April, have been replaced. General Santino Deng Wol is now the newly appointed army chief, reinforcing Kiir's inner circle, as Wol hails from the same region as the President and had previously held the post.

South Sudan continues to face challenges in implementing the 2018 peace agreement, which aimed at stabilizing the nation post-civil war. Analysts suggest these administrative changes indicate Kiir's intention to strengthen his grip on power amid ongoing national security issues.
