India's Census 2027 operations have entered a major public engagement phase with the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India (RG & CCI) flagging off six dedicated awareness vans in New Delhi to boost participation in the country's first-ever digital self-enumeration exercise.
The initiative marks a significant step in the Government's efforts to modernise India's decennial Census process through technology-driven participation, wider public outreach and large-scale digital integration.
The awareness campaign was launched from Janganana Bhawan in New Delhi as part of ongoing Houselisting and Housing Census (HLO) operations under the first phase of Census 2027.
Officials said the mobile awareness campaign aims to educate citizens about:
-
The importance of Census participation
-
the newly introduced Self-Enumeration (SE) facility
-
household data collection procedures
-
timelines for field operations
-
cooperation with Census Enumerators
The vans will travel extensively across the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi carrying informational messages and public guidance related to Census 2027.
India Introduces Digital Self-Enumeration for the First Time
One of the most transformative features of Census 2027 is the introduction of the Self-Enumeration (SE) facility, allowing citizens to digitally submit household information online for the first time in India's Census history.
The Government said the response to the digital initiative has been highly encouraging.
According to official data:
-
approximately 92 lakh households have already completed Self-Enumeration
-
participation has been recorded across 23 States and Union Territories
-
citizens are using the official portal: https://se.census.gov.in
Officials say the digital initiative represents a major shift toward technology-enabled governance and citizen participation.
The online self-enumeration system is expected to:
-
reduce field workload
-
improve operational efficiency
-
enhance data accuracy
-
speed up Census processing
-
strengthen citizen convenience
