Tensions Rise as Pakistan Demands Afghan Action on Terrorism
Pakistan summoned the Afghan Charge d'Affaires following a deadly TTP attack on a police post, killing 15 officers. The attack, allegedly planned by terrorists in Afghanistan, has intensified demands from Pakistan for the Afghan Taliban to prevent cross-border terrorism.
In a significant diplomatic move, Pakistan summoned the Afghan Charge d'Affaires after a brutal attack by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed the lives of 15 security personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Bannu district. The attack, which occurred on Saturday, has heightened tensions between the two neighboring countries.
The Pakistani Foreign Office has accused terrorists residing in Afghanistan of masterminding the attack. The use of Afghan soil for terrorism against Pakistan remains a grave concern, prompting stern warnings from Islamabad, which insists it reserves the right to take decisive action against the attackers.
Amid increasing incidents of cross-border terrorism, Pakistan has called on the Afghan Taliban to uphold their commitments to prevent their territory from being used for such purposes. However, relations between the two nations have grown strained, particularly since the Taliban's rise to power in Kabul in 2021.
