Frank Elderson, a board member of the European Central Bank, has issued a warning to euro area banks about the looming threat of cyber attacks. These attacks could be perpetrated with the assistance of advanced AI tools like Anthropic's Mythos model.
Elderson, who also serves as Vice Chair of the ECB's bank supervision arm, emphasized the necessity for immediate action. Although banks do not currently have access to the Mythos AI model, Elderson stated that this lack of access should not be an excuse for inaction.
He stressed that the absence of access makes it more crucial for banks to step up their preparations to counter these potential threats promptly.
