China has expressed concern over the UK's plans to nationalise British Steel, urging the British government to act cautiously and respect market principles. The call comes after Britain took control of the steel company from its Chinese ownership, Jingye, in April 2025.
The UK government, led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, announced the potential full nationalisation of British Steel, prompting China to closely monitor the situation. China's commerce ministry issued a statement, warning it will take strong measures to protect the rights of Chinese companies.
The British government has yet to comment on the issue, despite inquiries from media outlets like Reuters, as debates over nationalisation and international trade agreements persist.
