In a significant legal development, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma of the Delhi High Court has initiated criminal contempt proceedings against prominent AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia. The leaders allegedly launched a campaign on social media directed at vilifying Justice Sharma in relation to the excise policy case.
Justice Sharma stated that this orchestrated attempt aimed to destroy her reputation, sidestepping legal procedures. She clarified that this cannot be tolerated under the guise of free speech and emphasized her commitment to upholding the court's authority.
The case will now be heard by another bench following Justice Sharma's decision. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta commended her for maintaining the dignity of the judicial institution amid these allegations.
