Madhya Pradesh High Court Rules on Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque Complex Dispute

The Madhya Pradesh High Court ruled that the Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque complex is a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati. The court nullified a previous ASI order allowing Muslim prayers there, emphasizing the site's Hindu origins. The state is advised to allocate land for a mosque to ensure justice.

In a landmark decision, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has declared the Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque complex in Dhar district to be a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati. This verdict overturns an earlier Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) order that permitted Muslim prayers at the site on Fridays.

The High Court's detailed 242-page judgment cites archaeological evidence confirming the 11th-century site's religious character as a Hindu temple. As part of its directives, the court instructed the state government to consider land allocation for a mosque to accommodate the religious rights of the Muslim community.

Following the ruling, local law enforcement, including 1,200 police officers, were deployed to maintain peace in the region. The Court drew parallels with the Ayodhya dispute, stressing the importance of multidisciplinary studies in reaching its conclusion. The verdict is expected to be challenged in the Supreme Court for further review.
