A man has been apprehended in Kolkata's Garden Reach area following allegations of sending a threatening email to the police, claiming an impending suicide bomb attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The threat purportedly involved the terror outfit Al Qaeda, as stated by a senior officer on Saturday.

Hasnain Iqbal, aged 27, was taken into custody on Friday night after a collaborative investigation by the cyber cell and the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police. According to Additional CP-IV, V Solomon Nesakumar, the email arrived at the Bhowanipore police station around 10.15 am on May 14, claiming an upcoming suicide attack on the CM with the assistance of Al Qaeda.

The email was reportedly sent using a woman's identity. Initial probes revealed that the woman was known to the accused. Investigators deduce that the email was possibly intended to harass or implicate the woman and her family. The accused has previously sent emails to various government bodies, displaying advanced IT skills in creating IP addresses, according to police sources.
