BJP Aims to Revive Singur's Industrial Hopes with Tata's Return

The West Bengal BJP, led by Samik Bhattacharya, wants the Tata Group to return to Singur, signaling the state’s renewed openness to investment following its past industrial troubles. A fresh land policy is under development to pave the way for industrial resurgence in the region.

The West Bengal BJP is advocating for the Tata Group's return to Singur, a move that seeks to revamp the state's industrial image. According to party president Samik Bhattacharya, this initiative is crucial for showcasing West Bengal as an investor-friendly environment following the expulsion of Tata Motors two decades ago.

This outreach attempts to correct the previous "wrong message" about West Bengal's business climate. Bhattacharya emphasized the importance of a renewed land policy, which is currently under preparation by the BJP government, to drive future industrial projects. The goal is to transform Singur from a symbol of industrial withdrawal into a beacon of economic revitalization.

He cited the state's low share in India's FDI compared to Maharashtra as an example of the need for change. Efforts are underway to attract investments by leveraging the state's strategic advantages, such as its geographical position and infrastructure. The BJP's plan also includes balancing labour-intensive with capital-intensive industrial development to address unemployment.
