TMC's Rajya Sabha member, Derek O'Brien, has underscored the Tata Group's influential presence in West Bengal, rebutting state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya's intention to 'bring back' the company. O'Brien highlighted significant expansions by Tata companies across diverse sectors over the past decade and a half.
Using social media, O'Brien detailed the investments by Tata, noting that TCS will soon have a larger employee base in Bengal than Bengaluru. He remarked on the state's transformation into a major industrial hub, specifically in leather and cement. Former finance minister Amit Mitra echoed these remarks, citing the state's reduction in unemployment and industrial growth.
Bhattacharya, in a separate statement, indicated BJP's desire to rejuvenate ties with the Tata Group as part of a broader strategy to stimulate economic development in Bengal. The narrative of reclaiming the Tata's investment follows the historic 2008 removal of the proposed Nano car plant in Singur.
