A suspect in an alleged honour killing was taken into custody after a police encounter in Muzaffarnagar. Authorities reported on Monday that the accused, Amir, was apprehended following an exchange that left him injured.
The 25-year-old stands accused of murdering his 21-year-old sister, Adiba, over her romantic involvement with a local man. According to police, Amir fiercely objected to their relationship, which often involved phone conversations.
During a heated exchange on Sunday, Amir allegedly executed the attack by slitting her throat, driven by his belief of restoring the family's honour. A subsequent police operation to arrest Amir saw him being shot in the leg before his capture.
Senior Superintendent Sanjay Kumar confirmed that the weapon used in the crime has been recovered. This case underscores the persistent issue of honour-related violence, as society grapples with cultural and personal freedoms.
