Singer R. Kelly denied bail on U.S. charges of sex crimes over two decades

R&B singer R. Kelly pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to a raft of federal charges accusing him of running a scheme to force women and girls to provide sex for himself and others, and a judge ordered that he remain in jail without bail. A federal judge said the main reason he was denying bail was obstruction of justice charges, part of a multi-count indictment unveiled on Friday in Chicago and New York.

Rapper Meek Mill to appeal sentence that drew activists' ire

Rapper Meek Mill on Tuesday will appeal a Pennsylvania judge's decision to sentence him to up to four years in prison for probation violations in a case that criminal justice reform advocates say illustrates racial bias in the system. A judge in November 2017 sentenced the "All Eyes on You" singer, whose legal name is Robert Williams, to two to four years in prison after a pair of arrests violated probation conditions relating to 2008 gun and drug convictions.
