Turkey condemns U.S. move to back measure on sanctions

Turkey's Foreign Ministry on Wednesday strongly condemned a move by the U.S. House of Representatives to back a resolution that would impose sanctions on Ankara, saying the decision was not fitting of the NATO alliance between Turkey and the United States. The House on Tuesday voted 403-11 in favour of the resolution calling on President Donald Trump to impose sanctions and other restrictions on Turkey and Turkish officials over its offensive in northern Syria.

In a statement, Turkey's Foreign Ministry said the move was not fitting of the Oct. 17 truce deal agreed between Ankara and Washington to pause the Turkish offensive. It called on the U.S. administration to take measures to avoid steps that will further damage bilateral ties.
