As many as 203 candidates filed nominations in the election to Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency in Telangana and 191 have been found to be valid after scrutiny, officials said Tuesday. As many as 245 nominations, most of them filed by turmeric and red jowar farmers, were submitted Monday to highlight their demand for remunerative price to their produce. Monday was the last day to file nominations.

The scrutiny of nominations was taken up Tuesday. The nominations of 12 candidates were rejected in scrutiny and 191 were found to be valid, official sources said here Tuesday.

Sitting TRS MP K Kavitha, daughter of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, is seeking re-election from Nizamabad. The turmeric and red jowar farmers have been agitating for remunerative price and constitution of a turmeric board.

The scrutiny of nominations was taken up in all the 17 Lok Sabha seats in the state Tuesday. The total number of candidates in fray after scrutiny was not yet available here as details were still awaited from some constituencies. Meanwhile, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) here said over Rs 10.66 crore in cash was seized as on March 26.
