News channel CEO, telugu actor booked for cheating

A case was registered against the head of a prominent news channel and a telugu film actor here Thursday for allegedly cheating the company's promoters by forging documents, police said. Denying the charges, CEO of TV9 channel, Ravi Prakash said false cases were foisted against him and he did not run away as projected by a section of media.

In a video message, he also said he was still the CEO of ABCL, which runs the bouquet of channels. According to a release by Cyberabad police, searches were carried out by a police team at the office of the CEO and the residence of telugu actor Shivaji, who is said to be in possession of some shares of Associated Broadcasting Company Limited (ABCL).

Last year, Alanda Media and Entertainment had bought majority stake in ABCL. However, differences cropped up between the buyers and the CEO, who is said to be holding a little over 8 per cent stake in the company, sources close to the development said.

The case was booked based on the complaint by P Kaushik Rao, Director of Alanda Media and Entertainments Pvt Ltd, the release said. The complainant alleged that the CEO created fake documents and was trying to prevent the new management of the company from taking over the operations, police sources said.

"During searches in various places, the teams have seized important documents and electronic evidence. The seized materials will be forwarded to FSL (Forensic Science Lab) for further analysis," it added. A case was registered under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (Forged document) and 472 (making or possessing counterfeit seal), among others including some under IT Actsagainst the CEO and the actor.
