The Lok Sabha elections provided an opportunity for the people to express their 'dissatisfaction' with the TRS government on issues such as unemployment and agrarian issues, the Telangana Jana Samiti (TJS) said Monday. "The problem of unemployment should be solved. The agrarian crisis should be addressed. We have to find solutions to the land problem. We feel this is the agenda in the state," TJS president M Kodandaram told reporters here.
The TRS government did not try to address the demands of red jowar and turmeric farmers in Nizamabad who wanted remunerative prices to their produce, he alleged. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's daughter K Kavitha lost in the Lok Sabha elections from Nizamabad where more than 170 farmers had filed nominations as independents to highlight their demands, including remunerative prices.
The TRS ended up with nine out of the 17 Lok Sabha seats in the elections as against its hopes of a clean sweep along with its ally AIMIM. The TJS leader alleged the TRS government did not solve the problem of unemployment when concerns were raised with regard to the recruitment of teachers, police personnel, including constables, and others.
The TRS saw the massive mandate it got in the December Assembly polls as its own achievement but not as an opportunity to serve people, he charged. The TJS had contested the assembly polls in alliance with the Congress, TDP and CPI, but drew a blank.
Kodandaram was in the forefront of separate Telangana agitation as chairman of the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) that comprised various political parties, including TRS, and people's organisations.
