Two people, accused of robbing a Mauritian national on the Yamuna Expressway when she was on her way to see the Taj Mahal, were arrested after a brief exchange of fire with police in Mathura district on Thursday, a senior official said. Dharmendra and Ravindra, residents of Gond area in Aligarh district, have been hospitalised after they suffered bullet injuries in the foot during the encounter with police.
They had robbed the woman on June 9, when she was going to see the Taj Mahal with her Indian friend and their vehicle had broken down, SSP Shalabh Mathur said. They carried a reward of Rs 25,000 each.
The encounter took place in near Tehra village under Vrindavan police station, he added. Foreign currencies — 5 US dollars and 20 euros — passport, amobile phone, 3,000 csh in Indian currency, two country-made pistols , live cartridges and a motorcycle have been seized from their possession, the SSP said.
