Police arrests six suspected dacoits in West Bengal

Six suspected dacoits were today arrested near here in South 24 Parganas district and a cache of arms and ammunition seized from their custody, police said.

Acting on a tip-off from a group of three arrested arms sellers of Murshidabad district, the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Baruipur police arrested the six when they assembled at Gocharan under Joynagar police station area.

The seizure list included four one-shotter pipe guns, eight rounds of ammunition and eight bombs, the sources said. The purpose of procuring the arms was being investigated but the police suspected that they were planning to commit dacoity in the area.

Earlier on August 10, an arms racket was busted at Canning area in the district with the seizure of a huge cache of arms and ammunition and the arrest of three arms sellers, police said.

Twelve one-shutter pipe guns, nine rounds of ammunition and four mobile phones were seized from their possession, the police said.
