Quiin Abenakyo, who was crowned Miss Uganda 2018, admitted that she confronted sexual harassment in search of her jobs. According to the 23-year old beauty pageant titleholder, she was invited for an interview at one of the prospective employer’s offices in Uganda’s capital Kampala.
Quiin Abenakyo, who represented Uganda at Miss World 2018 in China and was crowned Miss World Africa 2018, said that she met a man who openly asked to have sex with him and in return, she would be given the job. “He openly told me I had to sleep with him to get employed. I felt so offended and disrespected,” she said.
“You never know, I may be the one to employ you one day,” Quiin Abenakyo told her tormentor in reply before leaving the office premise, as reported by New Vision.
The beauty queen then gave up the hunt for jobs until she got an opportunity to become Miss Uganda Beauty pageant. Initially, she found this opportunity ‘useless’ due to heavy competition. She made all the revelations at a national young women’s dialogue organized by Plan International held at Imperial Royale Hotel located in Kampala ahead of women’s day celebrations.
“Learn to say no and always choose the right friends and role models who will help shape up your future,” Quiin Abenakyo added while addressing the audience.
