Spain's acting PM says amnesty for Catalan separatists shows constitution's strength

Spain's acting prime minister on Wednesday said the proposed amnesty law for Catalan separatists was not an attack on the country's constitution, but rather undescored its strength and validity.

Pedro Sanchez was addressing lawmakers during the opening speech of the debate preceding a vote to decide whether he is invested as prime minister for another term.

He said the proposed amnesty, which has sparked protests across the country, would benefit "political leaders whose ideas I do not share and whose actions I reject, but also other people who were dragged into the process".
