On the eve of vote counting for the Lok Sabha polls in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, the ruling BJP is projecting an unprecedented victory margin of 10 lakh votes. The opposition Congress, sidelined after its candidate withdrew, is pushing for NOTA to secure two lakh votes.
Congress faced a significant blow on April 29 when Akshay Kanti Bam withdrew his nomination, leading to the party's absence from the polling for the first time in Indore’s 72-year electoral history. This led Congress to advocate for the NOTA option to counter the BJP.
Voter turnout on May 13 was recorded at 61.75%, with BJP’s Shankar Lalwani confident of a historic victory margin, surpassing his 2019 win by 5.48 lakh votes. Congress predicts a substantial NOTA vote, marking it as a lesson for parties they accuse of undermining democracy.
