BJP candidate Abhijit Gangopadhyay, a former judge of the Calcutta High Court, is trailing in the Tamluk constituency, according to the latest updates from the Election Commission.
Gangopadhyay is behind Trinamool Congress candidate Debangshu Bhattacharya by a margin of 1,372 votes as the counting progresses.
The Tamluk Lok Sabha constituency includes the Nandigram assembly segment, a significant area where Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari secured a victory against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the 2021 elections.
