Kumaraswamy’s Landslide Victory in Mandya: A Political Comeback

JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy won Mandya seat in Karnataka by 2,84,620 votes, defeating Congress's Venkataramane Gowda. Kumaraswamy secured 8,51,881 votes in the Lok Sabha polls, during which JD(S) allied with BJP. The son of former PM H D Deve Gowda aims to become Agriculture Minister.

In a stunning political comeback, JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy triumphed in the Mandya seat with a resounding margin of 2,84,620 votes. The former Chief Minister defeated his Congress opponent, Venkataramane Gowda, also known as Star Chandru, by securing 8,51,881 votes to Gowda’s 5,67,261, according to the Election Commission.

The JD(S) contested the Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka in alliance with the BJP, underscoring a tactical maneuver in the state's volatile political landscape. The party's overwhelming win in Mandya marks a significant victory for Kumaraswamy, the 64-year-old son of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, who has openly expressed his desire to serve as Agriculture Minister should the Modi government return to power.

An experienced politician, Kumaraswamy is currently serving as the state JD(S) President and has a long-standing history as a public servant, being a five-time MLA and presently representing Channapatna Assembly seat. His electoral success in Mandya underscores his enduring influence in Karnataka's politics.
