BRS working president K T Rama Rao conceded defeat on Tuesday after the party failed to lead in any of the 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana. Despite the setback, Rama Rao expressed confidence that the party would rise like a phoenix.

The Congress and BJP are set to win eight seats each in the state as the vote counting nears completion. AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi is also poised to retain his Hyderabad seat. The polls were conducted in a single phase on May 13.

In a philosophical reaction to the results, Rama Rao highlighted the 24 years of the party's history, citing its key achievements, including the formation of Telangana. The BRS, formerly TRS, won two consecutive state elections with majorities in 2014 and 2018 but has faced setbacks recently.

“Today’s electoral setback is certainly very disappointing, but we will continue to toil and rise from the ashes again like a phoenix,” said Rama Rao, who is also the son of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. The BRS had managed to win nine seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections but suffered a defeat in the Legislative Assembly polls last November.
