In a significant political development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faced a resounding defeat in the recent parliamentary polls in the union territory of Puducherry. The opposition has squarely blamed the corrupt and anti-people administration led by the AINRC-BJP coalition for this outcome.
Congress candidate V Vaithilingam emerged victorious, retaining the lone seat in Puducherry. Vaithilingam secured 4,26,005 votes, defeating Puducherry Home Minister A Namassivayam, who garnered 2,89,489 votes. The election saw 26 candidates vying for the seat.
