NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule triumphed over her sister-in-law and NCP candidate Sunetra Pawar in the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, attributing her victory to voters rejecting the 'repression' of central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate. This sentiment reflects the broader rejection of inflation, unemployment, and corruption by Maharashtra's electorate.
Sule made these remarks during her first visit to the city after her electoral win, emphasizing that the voters' dismissal of the 'ICE' (Income Tax, CBI, and Enforcement Directorate) underscores the resilience and 'real strength' of Maharashtra. She also expressed gratitude to her party workers and constituents for their collective success.
The challenge posed by her estranged cousin and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who supported his wife Sunetra, was overcome with significant voter support, marking Sule's fourth term as MP. Sule's victory comes amid ongoing challenges such as drought, water scarcity, and unemployment in Maharashtra, raising the stakes for her future responsibilities.
Amid celebrations, Sule visited her office in Market Yard, Pune, where she was welcomed by party workers and offered a huge garland. She also paid tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, in celebration of the anniversary of the historic ruler's 1674 coronation.
