In a significant political development, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) members on Saturday unanimously urged Rahul Gandhi to assume the mantle of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. This decision, credited to his contribution through the Bharat Jodo Yatras, marks a potential resurgence for the party.
Addressing the media post the extended CWC meeting, party general secretary KC Venugopal revealed the unanimous request and added that Rahul Gandhi would make a decision soon.
This move would break a decade-long gap where Congress could not claim the Opposition Leader's post, falling short of the requisite 10 percent of total seats in the House in both 2014 and 2019 elections.
