In a unanimous decision, former Congress president Sonia Gandhi was re-elected as the chairperson of the Congress parliamentary party on Saturday. The announcement was made after a meeting of party MPs, where Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge proposed her name. The proposal received strong backing from Gaurav Gogoi, K Sudhakaran, and Tariq Anwar.

Notably, Sonia Gandhi, aged 77, was elected to the Rajya Sabha earlier in February, reaffirming her central role in the party. Meanwhile, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) has called upon Rahul Gandhi to assume the position of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Rahul Gandhi, addressing the party's leadership, stated that he would make a decision on this matter 'very soon.'
