Jyotiraditya Scindia's induction into Prime Minister Narendra Modi's council of ministers has underscored his growing influence within the BJP, following his defection from the Congress in 2020. Scindia, 53, secured a landslide victory in the 2024 general elections from his traditional Guna seat as a BJP candidate for the first time, winning with a record margin of over 5 lakh votes.
The BJP's complete sweep in Madhya Pradesh, including the significant Chhindwara seat, reflects the shifting political tides. On Sunday, Scindia swore in as a Cabinet minister in Modi's 3.0 government, following a successful term as Civil Aviation Minister, which helped topple the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh.
Scindia's political journey started in 2002 after his father's demise, with notable stints in the Congress-led UPA government. However, his shift to BJP was marked by significant electoral successes, solidifying his importance in the party, as acknowledged by top-tier leaders like PM Modi and Amit Shah.
