South Korea has resumed its controversial anti-North Korean propaganda loudspeaker broadcasts along the border. This action comes in direct response to North Korea’s relentless balloon offensive, where over 1,000 trash-filled balloons were sent to the South over the past weeks, significantly escalating cross-border tensions.
Kim Yo Jong, a powerful figure in North Korea and the sister of leader Kim Jong Un, issued a forewarning of a “new response” from the North if South Korea continues its broadcasts. She emphasized that South Korea’s actions have initiated a “prelude to a very dangerous situation” and demanded an immediate cessation.
Amid rising hostilities, South Korean and North Korean actions have reignited fears of military confrontations. South Korea’s military has been put on alert, and warnings have been issued to their citizens to avoid contact with any suspicious balloon objects found on the ground.
