In a display of political discord, the Congress on Tuesday criticized Uddhav Thackeray for unilaterally announcing candidates for the upcoming Legislative Council elections in Konkan Graduates and Nashik Teachers' constituencies without consulting coalition partners.
According to Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole, Thackeray ignored a candidate previously finalized by the Congress, prompting demands for withdrawal. 'We expected that the candidates and seats will be finalized only after deliberations with Maha Vikas Aghadi constituents,' Patole told reporters.
Patole further claimed unsuccessful attempts to reach Thackeray, who was abroad at the time. The contentious move comes in the run-up to the June 26 elections, highlighting strained relations within the coalition.
