Rahul Gandhi's appointment as the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha signifies a critical shift in Indian politics, offering a platform for the voices of the unheard, according to Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Wednesday. He highlighted that the INDI alliance is effectively serving its role as the opposition and is confident it will soon transition to forming the government.
Aaditya Thackeray extended best wishes to @RahulGandhi for taking up the role. Thackeray stated, 'The people of this country have voted against dictatorship and against divisive politics of hate, and this role becomes essential as Rahul ji will be a voice for those unheard.'
The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, which includes Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party, reiterated its commitment to uphold democratic values and the Constitution. Aaditya Thackeray emphasized, 'As the Opposition, we promise to protect our democratic values, uphold the Constitution, and voice every person in Parliament. This duty we will also fulfil as the Government, very soon, as the INDIA alliance.'
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla recognized Rahul Gandhi as the leader of the opposition on Wednesday, following Congress's communication to the Lok Sabha Secretariat. The decision was formalized with a notification stating Gandhi's recognition as the leader of the opposition, effective June 9, soon after a meeting of the INDIA bloc floor leaders at Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge's residence.
