The Supreme Court has granted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal interim bail in connection to the now-scrapped excise policy case. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Bansuri Swaraj accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of attempting to mislead the public, pointing to Kejriwal's unyielding stance as the root of a policy paralysis and constitutional crisis in the capital.
Addressing a press conference in Delhi on Friday, Swaraj explained that the bail was only granted because a point of law was referred to a larger bench. She highlighted that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had recently presented a detailed chargesheet naming Kejriwal as the kingpin of the excise policy scam. According to Swaraj, the Supreme Court suggested that any constitutional functionary involved in such a crime should resign from their post. Despite this, she emphasized, Kejriwal remains unwilling to step down.
The AAP celebrated the interim bail decision, condemning the BJP's alleged plots against Kejriwal. Delhi Minister Atishi questioned why Kejriwal was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), suggesting it was part of a broader conspiracy to stall his work for the people of Delhi. Atishi urged the BJP to abandon its alleged tactics, insisting that truth, though troubled, cannot be defeated. The Supreme Court's verdict highlighted that Kejriwal, an elected leader, had already served 90 days of incarceration.
