The Trinamool Congress (TMC) triumphed in the West Bengal Assembly bypolls, claiming all contested seats. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee highlighted that her party recaptured three seats from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while holding onto one previously controlled by TMC. "We have secured four out of four seats. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our people for this victory," Banerjee announced during a press briefing in Kolkata following her Mumbai visit.
Reflecting on the party's success, Banerjee stated, "We are dedicating our triumph in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha polls to July 21. Despite conspiracies from both the BJP and certain agencies, the electorate supported us." She cited the example of Krishna Kalyani's win in Raiganj, attributing earlier losses to financial manipulations by BJP and Congress. Similarly, she recounted Mukut Mani's victory in Ranaghat and lauded Madhuparna Thakur's hard-fought win in Bagdah.
Banerjee took a jab at the BJP, noting their limited success in other states, "It seems the BJP has only managed to win two seats in their strongholds of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The national trend is clearly against the BJP." She also expressed concerns about the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill, urging the central government to reexamine it, citing potential threats to freedom and inadequate consultation during its passage. The TMC plans to pass resolutions against both the NEET and the Nyaya Sanhita Bill when the Assembly next convenes.
