The Congress party has launched a vehement critique against the Modi government's alleged mistreatment of Maharashtra, asserting that the state has been systematically deprived of multiple key projects and investments over the past ten years.
The comments follow Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pronouncement at a Mumbai event, where he stated his goal is to transform Maharashtra into a global financial powerhouse and make Mumbai a fintech capital. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh dismissed these claims as 'trademark lies,' highlighting Modi's refusal to set up an IFSC in Mumbai, opting instead for GIFT City in Gujarat.
Ramesh further pointed to several instances where Maharashtra has been bypassed for major projects, including the shift of the diamond industry to Surat and the relocation of the Tata-Airbus manufacturing plant. He also mentioned the reallocation of land in Bandra Kurla Complex for a bullet train, which allegedly cost Mumbai 2 lakh jobs. Ramesh accused Modi of deep-seated hostility towards Maharashtra, citing the Prime Minister's refusal to declare Marathi a classical language.
Modi, during the launch of various projects totaling Rs 29,000 crore, aimed to improve the standard of living and connectivity in areas close to Mumbai. However, Congress views these efforts as inadequate and misaligned with the state's actual needs.
