On Monday, the Goa assembly was adjourned twice following a breach of privilege motion filed by BJP MLA Daji Krishna Salkar against Congress legislator Altone D'Costa. The motion was triggered by D'Costa's comments about Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar.
D'Costa had claimed last Friday that the Speaker rejected his resolution demanding political reservation for the Scheduled Tribes community. Opposition Leader Yuri Alemao questioned the breach of privilege claim, arguing, 'Nothing stops us from moving a resolution. How is it a breach of privilege?'
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant countered that D'Costa's public statements insulted the Speaker, necessitating an apology. Amid the ensuing uproar, the House was adjourned twice for half an hour each. MLA Vijai Sardesai accused the ruling party of systematically disrupting proceedings to avoid a Question Hour focused on the National Education Policy.
