NCP Pune President Deepak Mankar has downplayed recent speculation about local leaders switching allegiance to Sharad Pawar's faction, affirming steadfast loyalty to Ajit Pawar. This comes in the wake of 29 former corporators, including city unit chief Ajit Gavhane, defecting from Ajit Pawar-led NCP to Sharad Pawar's group in Pimpri Chinchwad.
Mankar emphasized that the defection in Pimpri Chinchwad would not hold significant implications at the state level. He disclosed that Ajit Gavhane had discussed his plans with him, citing a rift with local BJP MLA Mahesh Landge as the primary reason. Mankar expressed unwavering confidence that departures would yield little benefit for those leaving.
In response to inquiries about his loyalty, Mankar stated unequivocally that the Pune City unit is unified and not subject to further defections. Despite having demands, such as a seat in the Maharashtra Assembly Council, Mankar clarified he remains committed to Ajit Pawar, regardless of the outcome. He highlighted that support for Ajit Pawar is rooted in a developmental agenda, making it unlikely for other members to abandon him. Additionally, Mankar hinted at potential new members from other parties joining the NCP soon. (ANI)
