Odisha Governor Raghubar Das on Monday announced an ambitious plan to fill 1.5 lakh government vacancies, with 65,000 positions to be filled in the next two years. Speaking during the inaugural session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly, Das focused on creating a vibrant manufacturing hub, prioritising industries like automobiles, electric vehicles, semiconductors, and IT/ITES under the ‘Make in Odisha’ initiative. This move aims to generate over 3.5 lakh jobs by 2029, enhancing economic growth and employment opportunities.
Das emphasised the importance of skill development, apprenticeship opportunities, and the empowerment of SC and ST youths through entrepreneurial initiatives. Recognising women as crucial to society, Das unveiled plans to create 25 lakh successful women entrepreneurs by 2027, supported by establishing industrial clusters for self-help groups and comprehensive product marketing strategies.
Addressing educational challenges, Das announced the adoption of a state-level policy aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, promising reforms including legal, medical, and engineering courses in Odia. The governor also highlighted plans to implement the Ayushman Bharat healthcare scheme, appoint 3,000 new doctors, and build a significant number of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. A flood control policy, state climate strategy, and green industrial policies are also on the agenda to address long-term challenges and promote sustainable development.
