Assam CM Praises Union Budget as Development Milestone for Northeast

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the Union Budget, calling it a transformative step for the state and the Northeast. He criticized Congress for being contradictory in its critique and highlighted key allocations for the tea garden community, Bodoland Territorial Council, and flood assistance.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the Union Budget on Tuesday, describing it as a hallmark for development in Assam and the Northeast.

In a post on X, Sarma criticized Congress for its contradictory stance, calling the Budget a copy of its manifesto while simultaneously criticizing it.

Sarma expressed gratitude to the Centre for allocating Rs 1,000 crore for the tea garden community under the Pradhan Mantri Cha Shramik Protsahan Yojana, calling it beneficial to Assam's tea industry. He also noted the increased allocation for the Bodoland Territorial Council and comprehensive flood assistance.

Sarma praised the Budget for its focus on employment generation, support for small businesses, and sectoral schemes. Initiatives like the PM's Package for Employment and Skilling and the enhanced allocation under PM Awas Yojana were highlighted as key elements that would benefit Assam.

The Chief Minister lauded the infrastructure push, green energy initiatives, and rural development budget, noting their potential multiplier effect on the state’s growth. He also commended reforms in land registration and the review of the IT Act.

Sarma concluded by stating that the Union Budget includes several forward-thinking measures such as the withdrawal of the Angel Tax and a commitment to reducing the fiscal deficit, ensuring India's sustained economic growth.
