Congress Stages Assembly Gherao Protesting Law and Order Deterioration

The Congress party plans an Assembly gherao in protest of worsening law and order in the state during the monsoon session. Senior party leaders and thousands of workers will make their voices heard. Sachin Pilot criticizes the recent Union Budget as ineffective and discriminatory.

The Congress party is preparing to stage a gherao of the Assembly on Wednesday to protest what they describe as worsening law and order in the state amidst the ongoing monsoon session. Thousands of Congress workers from across the state, alongside senior party leaders, will participate.

Speaking to ANI, Chhattisgarh Congress Incharge Sachin Pilot expressed that the state Congress committee has resolved to gherao the Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha today. 'It is concerning not to fulfill election promises, but the current state of governance, where crimes are escalating and law and order are declining, is unacceptable,' Pilot stated.

Pilot also criticized the Union Budget presented yesterday, labeling it a 'Sarkar Bachao Budget.' He argued that Chhattisgarh received negligible benefits. 'There are no indicators of inflation control,' he added, accusing the NDA of making empty statements without delivering on key issues such as employment and governance.

According to Pilot, 'As a constructive opposition, it is our responsibility to demonstrate for our rights. Today’s gherao will involve leaders from all states to amplify the people's voice. This is not merely a Congress event but a movement to awaken the central government to the people's demands.'

In preparation for the protest, traffic police have issued parking and route guidelines for Congress workers attending from various parts of the state. Meanwhile, the opposition INDIA bloc MPs held a protest against the Union Budget at the Parliament complex, with high-profile leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge in attendance.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge dismissed the budget as deceitful and unjust, hinting at further protests during the general budget discussion. On the same note, opposition leaders criticized the budget as discriminatory and influenced by political alliances.

The INDIA bloc’s Floor Leaders previously held a meeting at Kharge’s residence. Both Rahul Gandhi and Kharge took their dissent to social media, accusing the Union Budget of being a 'Kursi Bachao Budget' aimed at pleasing allies and powerful cronies rather than addressing the nation's needs.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh echoed these sentiments, citing the Modi government's failure to conduct the anticipated decadal population census and criticizing the absence of budget allocations for the census.
