US President Joe Biden remains steadfast in his commitment to attend the annual leadership summit of the QUAD countries, scheduled to be held in India this year, the White House confirmed on Thursday.

“We're still committed to there being a Quad leader summit this year, but there's nothing on the calendar right now for it,” White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby told reporters at a news conference.

QUAD, comprising Australia, Japan, India, and the US, is an initiative championed by Biden. In the first 100 days of his presidency in 2020, he convened a virtual QUAD leadership summit. Since then, QUAD leaders have held annual summits on a rotational basis, with India hosting this year's meeting.

Kirby noted that, with Biden not running for reelection, there would be more opportunities on the calendar for advancing his foreign policy and national security agendas. “We're exploring what those opportunities can look like,” he emphasized.

Kirby highlighted ongoing global challenges, including the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, climate change, and the unrest in the Indo-Pacific region, as key areas for the national security team. “There are plenty of things for the national security team to continue to address,” he added.
