Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday gave the green light to establish committees within the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) and the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (RCC) to negotiate with partners in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). The directive is effective immediately, according to a press release from the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) will include leaders such as Nana Patole, Balasaheb Thorat, Vijay Wadettiwar, Prithviraj Chavan, Dr. Nitin Raut, Arif Naseem Khan, and Satej Patil. Leaders from the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (RCC) will include Varsha Gaikwad, Ashok Jagtap, and Aslam Shaikh, the AICC press release disclosed.
Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal expressed optimism about the MVA's ability to form the next government in Maharashtra in the upcoming state assembly elections. The state's 288-member Legislative Assembly elections are scheduled for later this year, although the official dates have yet to be announced by the Election Commission of India.
Discussions on seat-sharing within the MVA were held on July 11. Sources from Congress suggest the party expects to contest 120-130 assembly seats, with Shiv Sena (UBT) contesting 90-100 seats and the NCP-SP eyeing 75-80 seats. In recent parliamentary elections, the MVA coalition captured a significant share of seats in Maharashtra.
