U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris's election campaign has achieved a significant milestone, raising $200 million and enlisting 170,000 new volunteers just a week after she announced her candidacy for president. President Joe Biden, who ended his reelection bid last Sunday, has thrown his support behind Harris for the upcoming November election against former President Donald Trump.

In a social media post, Harris' deputy campaign manager Rob Flaherty revealed that 66% of the contributions came from new donors. Harris has also secured the backing of a majority of delegates to the Democratic National Convention, making her the likely nominee for president next month.

Biden's decision to withdraw was influenced by concerns over his age and health, particularly after a lackluster debate performance against Trump. Despite stepping out of the race, Biden has pledged to fulfill his presidential duties until his term concludes on January 20, 2025.

Harris's campaign saw a substantial boost, pulling in $100 million within the first 36 hours of Biden's announcement. Her ascension has revitalized the campaign, which had been struggling due to doubts about Biden's viability as a candidate. Campaign co-chair Mitch Landrieu praised Harris's remarkable week, predicting a closely contested race in the upcoming election.
