Lakshman Prasad Acharya Sworn in as 32nd Governor of Assam

Lakshman Prasad Acharya was sworn in on Tuesday as the 32nd governor of Assam, taking over from Gulab Chand Kataria. Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Vijay Bishnoi administered the oath of office during a ceremony attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other dignitaries.

Acharya, who is also taking on the additional role of Manipur's governor, previously served as the governor of Sikkim. The 59-year-old thanked President Droupadi Murmu for his new assignment and expressed his dedication to serving Assam, a state he described as rich in culture.

In a social media post, he stated, “With new resolve and new energy, we will together take the state to greater heights.” Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister and his wife met with outgoing Governor Kataria to wish him well in his new role as Punjab’s governor and Chandigarh’s administrator.
