On Tuesday, Leader of Opposition and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused BJP MP Anurag Thakur of "abusing and insulting" him during the Lok Sabha discussion on the Union Budget. A heated exchange erupted when Thakur remarked that those whose caste is unknown are speaking about the caste census.

Responding to Thakur, Gandhi said that those who raise issues concerning Adivasis, Dalits, and backward communities get abused. Recalling a former prime minister’s opposition to OBC reservations, Thakur countered that Gandhi’s remarks were out of place. Gandhi stated he would accept the abuse but did not seek an apology from Thakur.

In defending the BJP's lotus symbol, Thakur highlighted its cultural and spiritual significance. He accused the Congress of historical and ongoing neglect of OBC issues and nepotism. Thakur's fierce critique of Congress included literary references and underscored alleged corruption within the Gandhi family. Rahul Gandhi, referring to the Mahabharata, criticized the BJP's budget, claiming it created an atmosphere of fear.
